MSP, Metro Detroit Police Crack Down On ‘Move Over’ Law

(CBS DETROIT) — Michigan State Police officers, together with a couple of native police departments, are cracking down on the state’s “Move Over” regulation underneath the Operation Guardian Angel site visitors initiative.
The focus areas had been Interstate 94, I-96 and I-696. MSP’s Second District Motor Unit labored together with the Farmington Hills Police Department, Livonia Police Department and Romulus Police Department.

Here are some stats from the one-day operation on Wednesday:
- Stops: 193
- Failed to maneuver over: 44
- Speeding: 99 (prime pace was 107 mph)
- Texting: 8
- Seatbelt: 7
- Other violations: 14
- Warnings: 100
- Arrests: 13 (7 felony arrests and 6 misdemeanors)

The “Move Over” regulation, which went into impact in 2019, requires drivers to decelerate 10 mph beneath the posted pace restrict, in addition to to yield their lane when passing police or emergency autos on the facet of the street.
Drivers in violation are topic to 2 factors on their driver’s license and fines as much as $400.
