Vigils held for Chilean journalist killed in May Day protests

Chilean police have used water cannons in opposition to protesters within the capital Santiago, as clashes broke out following a vigil in honour of the late journalist, Francisca Sandoval.

She died after being shot on the sidelines of a union demonstration — organised to mark International Workers’ Day on May 1.

Some teams arrange barricades and lower off visitors within the Plaza de Italia, the epicentre of the so known as “social outbreak” protest motion since 2019, within the coronary heart of Santiago.

Vigils have taken place within the capital, with candles and photographs of the journalist.
